František Dohnal
František Dohnal (born July 31, 1876 in Čelčice , † July 28, 1956 in Prostějov ) was a Czech Roman Catholic priest, poet, dramaturge, literary critic, essayist and translator; he also published under the pseudonym František Léman.
Life
Dohnal attended school in Staré Brno (German: Old Brno, today a district of Brno ) from 1888–1892 , then the grammar school in Brno, where he passed the Abitur in 1896, and then also studied theology at the Episcopal seminary in Brno; It was consecrated in 1900. He then worked as a clergyman, including 1900–1907 as a chaplain in Nové Hvězdice near Vyškov , 1907–1923 as a priest in Šardice near Kyjov and 1923–1937 in Křižanovice near Bučovice , later in Prostějov .
From 1913 Dohnal was a member of Družina literární a umělecká , an association of Catholic writers, which existed in Olomouc from 1913 to 1948 and also published some works by Catholic writers. He edited the magazines Záboj , Obzor and Nový obzor (a Catholic literary review), where he wanted to unite Catholic writers.
Dohnal translated from French, German, Danish and Polish.
