The landscape protection area Am Ottermeer is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00027 and is located entirely in the area of the city of Wiesmoor .
Description of the area
The protected landscape area, which was designated in 1991, covers an area of 1.04 square kilometers. It begins north of the Otter Sea and extends to the Großefehn Canal. It is bordered to the south by the street Am Ottermeer and to the west by the street Neuer Weg. To the north it extends to Hauptwieke I. Most of the area is made up of upland moor and remaining upland moor areas. The area is regarded as a valuable habitat for adapted animal and plant species.
Protection purpose
The general protective purpose is to "secure the remaining raised bog vegetation and maintain a varied parceling of the landscape with different heights, regenerating hand peat cuttings, wet grassland and rewetting areas."
