The landscape protection area Osteregelser Moor and the surrounding area is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 0026.
Description of the area
The landscape protection area, designated in 1990, covers an area of 3.56 square kilometers and is located northeast of the core city south of the Pfalzdorf district of Aurich . The landscape protection area consists mainly of raised bog and the associated raised bog edge area in the border area to the geest near and far from the groundwater . In the area of the Hoochmoor, which is a significant remainder of the originally extensive moorland east of Aurich, there are renatured hand peat cuttings and some rewetted upland moor areas, while the edge area is used as wet grassland . In addition, some still waters , strips of wood and moor forests characterize the area. It is considered a habitat for typical plants of the raised bog and adapted animal species.
