The Arnsberg landscape protection area with an area of ​​8,374.53 hectares is located in the Arnsberg urban area . It was designated in 1998 with the Arnsberg landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis as a landscape protection area (LSG) as LSG type A (general landscape protection) .

The LSG extensively covers all areas in Arnsberg that are outside of the building area and other protected areas with stricter requirements. In the LSG there are mainly forest areas, furthermore smaller areas with Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures and smaller areas with open land. In the open country there is almost only intensively used grassland and arable land. The forests mostly have spruce or beech trees.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to secure and maintain the natural suitability for recreation and the efficiency of the natural balance against the diverse civilizational demands on nature and landscape.

Legal regulations

In the Arnsberg landscape protection area, among other things, the erection of buildings is prohibited. Building projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry, the public supply of electricity, gas, telecommunications services, heat and water, wastewater management or an existing commercial operation are exempt from the construction ban, provided that there is a building permit. The construction of wind turbines and hydropower plants is also permitted with a building permit. Initial afforestation and the new planting of Christmas tree cultures, ornamental twigs and tree nursery cultures are subject to official approval from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority .
