The landscape protection area Balve - Mittleres Hönnetal with 4,745.66  hectares is located in the town of Balve in the Märkisches Kreis . It was designated for the first time in 1989 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the landscape plan Balve - Mittleres Hönnetal with an area of ​​4,913.46 hectares as a landscape protection area (LSG) of type A (general landscape protection) with the name landscape protection area Mittleres Hönnetal . In 2015, with the 2nd amendment to landscape plan No. 2 Balve-Mittleres-Hönnetal, another designation took place. In the second designation, the area size was reduced by 167.80 hectares. The LSG is located in the area of ​​the city of Balve. The LSG often goes to the outskirts of the settlement.


The LSG covers large areas that are outside of the built-up area and other protected areas with stricter requirements. In the LSG there are mainly forest areas, grassland and fields. Smaller areas with Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures are also located in the LSG. The forests mostly have spruce or beech trees.

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to maintain, develop or restore the efficiency and functionality of the natural balance or the regenerative and sustainable usability of natural assets, including the protection of habitats and habitats. Also because of the diversity, character or beauty or the special cultural and historical importance of the landscape and because of its special importance for recreation.

Legal regulations

In the LSG, among other things, the erection of buildings is prohibited. The erection of milking parlors and open shelters for grazing cattle and the erection of customary pasture and forestry fences as well as customary property enclosures are excluded from the prohibition. The new planting of Christmas tree cultures, ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures and reforestation is prohibited and is subject to official approval from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority .
