from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The landscape protection area Lean Grassland on Heimberg with 11.38 hectares is located east of Brilon . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the landscape plan of the Brilon plateau . The Heimberg nature reserve borders in the north-east and south .

Area description

In the western area of the LSG there is extensive, species-rich, very short-grassed lean grassland or limestone grassland on a south-west exposed, partly very steep slope. The lean grassland extends to the edges of the unpaved farm road adjacent to the north. The grass path and its verge are particularly rich in flowers. The grassland is used as pasture and pasture. The limestone grassland provides a habitat for a number of rare and endangered plant species and, in its natural environment, is representative of intensely grazed, but unfertilized grassland on a base-rich subsoil. The grassland is divided by a few terrace edges on which there are isolated and small groups mostly hawthorn bushes. To the east of the adjoining farm there are two small and very low rocky peaks that are covered with a small beech grove. The grove is integrated into the grazing. Therefore a typical rock vegetation is not developed. Another small rock protrudes from the grassland on the southeast edge of the area. According to the landscape plan, the LSG is of great importance for the insect and avifauna.

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to maintain, supplement and optimize a grassland biotope network system, in particular with the nature reserve designations in grassland. In this way, animals and plants should retain the opportunity to migrate and spread. Like the other type C landscape protection areas, this designation also serves as a buffer zone for adjacent nature protection areas.

Legal framework

The landscape protection area Lean Grassland on Heimberg was designated as a landscape protection area of type C, meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland. In the landscape protection areas of type C of the landscape plan area, initial afforestation and the creation of new Christmas tree cultures, ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures are prohibited. Furthermore, there is a ban on converting grassland and fallow land into arable land or other forms of use. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of the extended care break , a minimum distance of 5 m from the central water bed must be maintained. For the cultivation of renewable raw materials, an exemption from the ban on plowing up grassland is possible as part of a case-by-case assessment.
