The landscape protection area Mahnmal Upschlott is a landscape protection area in the district of Wittmund in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG WTM 00023. As the lower nature conservation authority, the district of Wittmund is responsible for the area.

Description of the area

The landscape protection area, designated in 1973, covers an area of 1.08 square kilometers, which extends over an area southeast of Leerhafe , a district of Wittmund in East Frisia .

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the "protection of the natural balance and the landscape from damage, the protection of the enjoyment of nature from impairment, the protection and preservation of the open lowland used as grassland as well as the development of other, above all, nutrient-poor wetlands". To achieve this goal , the district wants to create a maintenance and development concept. The plan is to optimize the water levels in the landscape protection area and to only manage the grassland extensively, especially within the areas with fens in the southeast and south . In addition, the district is striving to place the entire lowland area under protection. This stands out very clearly from the surrounding natural areas due to its landscape, the ground relief and the structure. A change of name is also being considered. It is proposed that the name be renamed “Irmenhofheide Landscape Protection Area”.
