The landscape protection area Neues Moor - Herrenmoor is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00025 and lies entirely in the area of the city of Aurich .

Description of the area

The landscape protection area designated in 1974 in the area of the Aurich district of Brockzetel covers an area of 2.87 square kilometers and is located east of the streets Erikaweg and Arnoldsweg and south of Brockzeteler Straße. The Ems-Jade Canal is the southern limit . The nature reserve borders the Brockzeteler Moor nature reserve as a strip of different widths. Most of the area is used for agriculture as raised bog grassland and occasionally as mixed sand culture. There are also individual, small degenerate raised bogs . These border directly on the nature reserve and, according to the Aurich district, reflect the different stages of succession of a drained raised bog. A specialty is the northern canal side strip (Ems-Jade-Kanal), the so-called Kipp , which is characterized by varied woody and grassland structures on a moving relief.

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the creation of a "buffer zone for the Brockzeteler Moor nature reserve in the core area", the "preservation and development of the typical peculiarities of the raised bog landscape with its specific flora and fauna" as well as "relaxation through experiencing nature."
