The Südgeorgsfehner Moor landscape protection area is a landscape protection area in the district of Leer in the northwest of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG LER 00002. As the lower nature conservation authority, the district of Leer is responsible for the area.
Description of the area
The protected landscape area, designated on May 13, 2009, covers an area of 6.9 square kilometers and is located in the municipality of Uplengen .
It belongs to the "East Frisian Central Moors" natural area and is located in the southern area of the Lengener Moor. The Südgeorgsfehner Moor is mainly used agriculturally as grassland.
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the “preservation of the character of the landscape, the development of the open raised bog grassland and the safeguarding of the efficiency of the natural balance. The area is to be preserved and optimized as raised bog grassland for species and communities of the secondary habitat of raised bogs, taking into account the existing peat thicknesses. At the same time, it should be secured and developed as a meadow bird habitat. "
