Description of the area
The protected landscape area, designated in 1965, covers an area of 0.12 square kilometers and is located north of the Coldhörn road and west of the Accumer Riege. The landscape protection area is a "coherent park and (quarry) forest area with a castle complex and the associated Zingel in the outskirts of Dornum". The area is considered an ecologically significant wood with sub-areas similar to natural forests. It is the habitat of diverse avifauna and other animals. The area was also placed under protection because of the occurrence of botanical rarities and its characteristics that shape the landscape and the townscape in the transition area from brackish march to maritime march. The castle park is a locally climatically valuable local recreation area.
Protection purpose
The general protection purpose is the "preservation of culturally and historically significant monuments in natural surroundings, securing a distinctive old tree population."
