from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Langage ( French ) [ lãˈɡaːʒə ] describes in Ferdinand de Saussure on the one hand human speech as a general, pre-theoretical umbrella term for langue (the rule system of language) and parole (the practice of speaking); on the other hand, and to differentiate more often in the form faculté de langage, the human language ability, i.e. the biological prerequisites for learning and using language.

In the langage is language as a general human phenomenon, and thus the ability to speak and to language at the level of mankind. While the term langue encompasses the concrete language that has become historically or the language on the level of the community.

Linguists like Chomsky later interpreted de Saussure's faculté de langage as a forerunner to the theory of a universal grammar innate in humans .
