The Lange Straße in Göppingen is known as the street of glass craftsmanship and culinary delicacies.

Location and development of the street

Today's pedestrian zone in east-west direction leads from Pflegestrasse to Schloßstrasse. It is directly connected to the east with the main shopping area Untere Marktstrasse and to the west via a small pedestrian passage to the Schillerplatz, which has been revived by the new restaurant Der Andechser . It gives the promenade that runs parallel to the main street new perspectives. The Andechser removes the former inns on Lange Straße, such as B. the harmony. The street has a handcrafted street scene.

Notable buildings

  • No. 26: 3-sch. Building with the Cafe Berner; Traditional restaurant in Göppingen, well-known pastry shop in the listed building in Swabian style.
  • No. 27: Goldsmith's shop with its "glass" workshop
  • No. 19: Haus Höppel, formerly a household and grocery store.
  • No. 32 and 38: As corner houses, both buildings took on an important functional but also formative task. However, they were demolished in the summer of 2018.
  • No. 32: Cloth makers, kit makers, joiners and shoemakers were based here. Urban spatial and architecturally successful corner formation Lange Straße / Kellereistraße. The rooms on the ground floor in the pedestrian zone are kept transparent. It was demolished in 2018.
  • No. 38: Residential and commercial building, formerly a fabric maker and stocking weaver's building, later an inn and bakery, then a carpenter's shop with furniture trade and finally a clothing store. The historic building that defines the cityscape forms a structural and spatial version of the southwest corner of Lange Strasse and Marstallstrasse. It was supposed to be renovated by the municipal housing company of the city of Göppingen Wohnbau GmbH Göppingen, as this was not worthwhile, the building was demolished.
