Confluence of drainage ditches in the Rieseberger Moor towards Lauinger Mühlenriede |
The Lauinger Mühlenriede , also called the Glüsig , is a four kilometer long stream in the Lower Saxony district of Helmstedt in the area of the city of Königslutter . Its tributaries have their origin on the northern slope of the Elm and unite south of Lauingen . The stream runs mainly to the north, delimits the Rieseberger Moor nature reserve and flows into the Schunter from the left at Ochsendorf .
Surname
The designation in the official maps of the Lower Saxony state survey is uniformly Lauinger Mühlenriede . In the reports of the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management , which is responsible for water control , the name is consistently Glüsig (Lauinger Mühlenriede) . The parcel in Ochsendorf at the confluence of the Glüsig in the Schunter is called Zur Glüsig in the official maps .
geography
The source streams of the Glüsig arise southeast of Bornum on the Elmrand and often fall dry in summer. The coordinates of the confluence on the Braunschweig – Magdeburg railway line are given as the source point . From here it is only about 300 meters to the Brückentor road in the settlement area of Lauingen.
In the place, the stream is bordered and regulated by stone almost in its entire course. Along the Brückentor street, decommissioned tombstones were used to fix the side walls, which are still visible today. It flows exclusively next to the carriageway and is bordered by the wall of the estate in the area of the Stobenbrink and Sandstraße. He crosses the sand road at right angles at the confluence with Kornstraße and continues next to it, which is designated as Kreisstraße 4.
At the end of the village, a Feldbach joins it from the left and the Lauinger Mühlenriede turns in front of the Rieseberg and behind the Holy Mountain to the northeast to the Rieseberger Moor nature reserve. This limits it to the west along a forest in which the Käthe-Kollwitz-Heim is located, a side arm leads into the nature reserve. After a slight swing, it takes up the drainage of the Rieseberger Moors at the Puritzmühle and feeds several fish ponds.
From here it strives straight north and reaches the Schunter near Ochsendorf.
Water quality
The state office NLWKN is responsible for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive , which manages the Lauinger Mühlenriede as a water body with the number 15052. The stream is classified as a “ loess-clay-shaped lowland stream ” (type 18) with regard to the type of flowing water .
The chemical composition and the saprobic index are rated “good”.
The overall ecological condition is described as "moderate" because of some structural deficits. The water structure quality has not been assessed in detail, but there are indications of the dryness in the upper reaches, the partially deficient streambed design and the lack of woodland in some areas. Like the water quality report from 2002, the data sheet refers to the brook lampreys found in the area of the Puritzmühle .
History
In the area of the Stobenbrink street in Lauingen there used to be a horse pond , which was also known locally as a horse sink and is no longer visible today. In the post-war period, the course of the stream was relocated in the town center. Since then it has had its current course along the sand road.
In the past, Lauingen was repeatedly affected by the fact that the Mühlenriede overflowed its banks as part of flood events. The town center in the Stobenbrink area was particularly badly affected in the late 1990s and early 2000s. For this reason, an overflow structure was built in the early 2000s on Kornstraße and Brückentor, which helps to relieve the Mühlenriede in the town center. A pipe carries the excess water northwards below the Kornstrasse and flows back into the stream behind the intersection of the Kornstrasse and Sandstrasse.
