The long goods transport (also long goods transport ) is an excessively long load in Austrian traffic law .

The term also existed in Germany, where it is no longer used.

To the subject

Long goods transport is "the transport of loads with motor vehicles [including trailers], if

  • the length of the motor vehicle or trailer including the load exceeds or exceeds 14 m
  • the load protrudes by more than a quarter of the length of the motor vehicle or trailer over its rearmost point, ”and
  • in the case of motor vehicles with trailers, "if the last trailer is a trailer and the load extends more than a fifth of its length beyond the rearmost point of the trailer."
( Section 2 line 39 of the Motor Vehicle Act as amended 2019 - reworded here).

The maximum permissible speed of these vehicles is 50 km / h on open roads . On motorways , the speed was limited to 70 km / h for a long time and was increased to 80 km / h in 2019 (Section 101 KFG).

If the load protrudes by more than a meter when transporting long goods, it must be marked with a 25 by 40 cm white board with a 5 cm wide, red reflective border. It may be attached a maximum of 90 cm above the roadway.
