The Lanthorn Tower is a tower in the fortress of the Tower of London . The tower was built in the 19th century in place of an old tower, making it one of the youngest buildings in the fortress.

The first Lanthorn Tower was in the years 1220-1226 under Heinrich III. erected, and destroyed in a fire in 1777. Originally it formed the counterpart to the Wakefield Tower , both together delimited the Great Hall , which is also destroyed today. When John Taylor extensively restored the tower in the 1870s and tried to give it a medieval look again, he also had the Lanthorn Tower rebuilt.

The wall between Lanthor and Wakefield Tower is also a work by Taylor from the 19th century and is only superficially reminiscent of the medieval structures that are in the tower. It is barely decorated, its straight lines clearly shows the traits of industrial production.
