Larry Heard

Larry Heard (born May 31, 1960 in Chicago , Illinois) is an American musician and influential representative of the Chicago House .

Born in south Chicago, Heard grew up with jazz and Motown . He could play several instruments. Before he started his solo career in 1983 he was a member of the groups Infinity (a jazz-fusion cover group) and Manhattan Transfer . He also worked for the US government as a charity broker and was able to buy his first studio equipment.

In the 1980s, he produced some influential house pieces that later became classics of the genre, including Can You Feel It , Bring Down the Walls (featuring Robert Owens), Mystery of Love , Washing Machine , Donnie (Harry Dennis aka 'The It '), Closer and What About This Love .

He mentors other successful artists such as Son Dexter , whose Alleviated Records label released some Heard tracks. Many of his titles have been published under various pseudonyms, including Fingers Inc. , Mr. Fingers, Loosefingers, House Factors, Gherkin Jerks and Trio Zero. Heard is also part of the duo The It . "Another Side" was included in The Wire's 100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening) .
