Map of Bouvet Island with Larsøya (bottom left) |
Larsøya , also known as Lars Island or Lars Island , is a rocky island a few hundred meters from the southwestern headland of Catoodden on Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic. The island is around 340 meters long and up to 190 meters wide.
It was first mapped in 1898 by the German Valdivia expedition under Carl Chun . A Norwegian expedition under Captain Harald Horntvedt (1879–1946) landed on the island in December 1927 and named it after Lars Christensen , the sponsor of the expedition.
