Lasiorhynchites coeruleocephalus is a beetle from the family of leaf rollers (Attelabidae) and belongs to the subfamily of the shoots (Rhynchitinae).
features
The beetles have a body length of 4 to 5.5 mm. The pronotum and elytra are yellow-red, otherwise they are metallic dark blue or green. Her body is covered with yellow protruding hair. The head has parallel temples. The beetle's trunk ( rostrum ) is straight. In the males it is as long as the pronotum, in the females it is proportionally longer. Coarse stripes of dots run over the wing covers.
distribution
The species occurs in the western Palearctic . Their occurrence extends over the western Mediterranean area (North Africa, Spain, France, Italy) and extends over Central Europe as well as the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary to western Ukraine. The northern limit of distribution is in Holstein . In Central Europe, the species is widespread with the exception of the higher mountains.
Way of life
The imagines is often observed from May to September to hanging ( Betula alba ) and downy birch ( Betula pubescens ), which are among their food plants. The larvae mine in dead pine branches, especially those of the Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ). They also spend the winter there. The larvae leave the branches in spring and pupate in the ground.
