The staff judge is an instrument in surveying . With its help, for example, a leveling staff (hence the name) or a ranging pole can be set vertically. It consists of a circular level , which is attached to an approximately 11 cm long angle iron . A circular level is a glass vessel with a spherical top surface on the inside. As a rule, a concentric circle mark is etched in the middle to bring in the dragonfly bubble. Circular vials are used for rough leveling .
