Barrel root

Different barrels, barrel root at the top, barrel muzzle at the bottom

As barrel base ( engl. Barrel root , barrel base ), the end of a run denoted by a projectile enters the barrel.
Like any pipe , a barrel has two ends. The opposite end of the barrel (from which a projectile emerges) is called the muzzle . Most firearms are followed by the breech behind the barrel root . An exception are revolvers where the revolver drum is used instead of a breech. As a rule, information about the caliber of the barrel and proof marks are attached to the barrel root .
