Village church hl. Laurence

The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Laurenz is the village church in the center of the village on Hauptstrasse in the municipality of Katzelsdorf in Lower Austria.

The initial branch church of the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Lanzenkirchen was in 1783 the parish church hl. Subordinated to Radegundis on the monastery height of Katzelsdorf. The church was in ruins after an air raid in 1944. From 1952 to 1957 the medieval north tower from the 2nd half of the 13th century was restored. The mighty tower made of quarry stone with an early baroque upper floor with arched sound windows carries a tent roof. On the ground floor there is now a flat-roofed chapel room, which was statically reinforced and narrowed during the restoration, and which was originally a Romanesque choir square.

From 1957 to 1958, according to the plans of the architect Hans Petermair , a hall church was added to the preserved tower, with the orientation being turned from northeast to southeast, contrary to the previous building. The nave with a straight, drawn-in choir under saddle roofs show simple facades with corner squaring and arched windows. An open portal vestibule was presented to the north front next to the tower. A sacristy was added to the east of the nave and choir. The nave and choir with a high round arched triumphal arch as a transition are closed off on the ceilings with flat wooden barrels over strong cornices.

The uniform furnishings of the church from the 17th century were saved and taken over. Friedrich Deutschmann's organ from 1820 was transferred here from the Ursuline Church in Vienna's Inner City in 1963 .
