history

The foundation of the parish is assumed to be in the 11th century. The parish was first mentioned in a document in 1146. The leading position as the mother parish on the southeastern edge of the Steinfeld region went to the Ulrichskirche (?) In Wiener Neustadt after 1200 , and in 1445 as vicariate with mother parish to the canons of Wiener Neustadt and then to the cathedral chapter. In 1600 the parish went to the Diocese of Wiener Neustadt and in 1786 was subordinated to the Wiener Neustadt Religious Fund.

The Romanesque choir square church with ribbed vaulted crypt under the choir is from the beginning of the 13th century. In the attic there are four walled up Romanesque arched windows as well as a sculptured eaves stone with an animal head on the south-east corner of the church. The groin vaulted south chapel on the choir square from the 13th century is probably the former donor chapel. It was later used as a sacristy. The south aisle with a post-Gothic groin vault from 1560 is essentially from the 1st half of the 14th century. After severe damage as a result of an earthquake in 1768, the church was repaired and baroque from 1770 to 1773, with the year 1773 on the main portal. The floor height was raised by one meter. In 1976, during an archaeological excavation, octagonal, late Gothic pier stumps and parts of the vault were uncovered in the fill material. In 1863 a sacristy was added to the north with an oratory on the upper floor. In 1888 the south chapel, which had previously served as a sacristy, was opened to the choir and the south nave. In 1889 a tower was presented to the choir in the east. In 1963 a vestibule was built in front of the main portal in the west.
