Lauri Rapala

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lauri Rapala (* 1905; † 1974) was a Finnish angler . In 1936 he developed the first wobbler later named after him from a cork . He formed the outside of the fish bait out of the tin foil from cheese boxes and chocolate bars . Since he had no lacquer available to get a protective layer, he melted unusable photo negatives over the wobbler. His first wobbler still exists today. This wobbler has a dark top, golden colored flanks and a lighter belly. Rapala wobblers are still some of the best wobblers in the world today. Rapala wobblers are made either from balsa wood or from plastic.

Today, Rapala wobblers are sold in Europe by Shimano .
