The Lauschenstein tunnel is a railway tunnel in the Sonneberg district on the Coburg – Ernstthal railway line on Rennsteig at kilometer 39.9. It is located between the Lauscha train station and the Oberlauscha stop. It was built in the first half of 1912. On June 11, 1912 at around 6:00 p.m., the tunnel, being driven from both sides, broke through.

geometry

The tunnel is 275 meters long and crosses under the Lauschenstein in an arc with a radius of 250 meters on a steep slope . Furthermore, a height difference of nine meters is overcome from the tunnel entrance to the tunnel exit. This corresponds to a slope of 31.3 per mille .

construction

The tunnel portals are made of concrete and have a facing made of embossed natural stone blocks. Brick masonry forms the tunnel vault. There are alternative niches in the tunnel.
