Laut (old spelling: Laoet ) is an island off the southeast coast of Borneo in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan Selatan . It is 2062 km² and has about 80,000 inhabitants. The Bamega , located 725 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain on Laut. The island forms the southwest corner of the Makassar Strait ; in the south it borders on the Java Sea .
Administratively, the island is divided into six districts of the Kotabaru administrative district:

- Pulau Tengah Laut
- Pulau According to Selatan
- Pulau According to Barat
- Pulau According to Timur
- Pulau According to Kepulauan
In addition to fishing, the cultivation of pepper and rubber are of economic importance.
