The Laval turbine is a constant pressure steam turbine that was designed by Carl Gustav Patrik de Laval . Laval developed this turbine to drive a centrifuge he developed for milk .

Laval used the Laval nozzle named after him for the construction of this turbine , which he patented in 1883 and with which a gas flow can be accelerated to supersonic speed.
