Lavassaare (German: Lawasser ) is a patch ( Estonian alev ) in the rural municipality of Pärnu in the Estonian district of Pärnu .
Until 2013 the place also formed an independent municipality ( Lavassaare vald ). In 2013 it was incorporated into the rural community of Audru and incorporated into Pärnu in 2017 . 547 inhabitants lived on 8 km² (2006).
Lavassaare is 23 km from Pärnu . The landscape is 31 m above sea level and is characterized by moors. Lavassaare is best known for the extensive open-air railway museum founded in 1987, which gives a good insight into the Estonian history of the narrow-gauge railway since its beginnings in 1896.
