Law Castle

Law Castle is a tower house in the Scottish town of West Kilbride in the Council Area of North Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. Law Castle built around 1468 for Thomas Boyd, 1st Earl of Arran and his wife, Princess Mary Stewart of Scotland . After it fell into disrepair over the centuries, it was restored in the 20th century. In 1989 apartments were set up in the fortress, which are also offered as holiday apartments.

The four-story building is located on a hill on the northeastern edge of West Kilbride. It is similar to the structures Little Cumbrae Castle , Fairlie Castle and Skelmorlie Castle and has a simple rectangular floor plan. There is a vaulted cellar on the ground floor, from which a staircase leads to the upper floors. The large hall on the first floor was also used as a courtroom in the past. On the top floor there is a small building that was once used by the guards.
