The church

The village church of St. Christophorus in the Haufeld district of the city of Rudolstadt in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia is located with the cemetery on the northern eastern edge in Rundlingsdorf . Your church tower is in the middle, in the west and east of the tower the two naves .

It belongs to the parish Teichel in the parish of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

History and equipment

In the Romanesque nave , wall paintings from the 14th century are preserved, which are among the most important Gothic wall paintings in Thuringia and were uncovered in 1931. Saint Christopher is depicted in the chancel. In 1529 the church became Protestant. The church tower got its current typical shape in 1762. The tower clock was installed two years later .

Donations made it possible to re-roof the church tower in 1985. A new tower button and the new covering of the slate ceiling above the wall paintings were also implemented.

In 1993 extensive restoration work was carried out on the church with funds from the State Office for Monument Preservation and Archeology of the Free State of Thuringia.

In 1883 the new larger organ was installed . At the same time the galleries were expanded.

In 1921 a new bell and a tower clock with striking mechanism were purchased .
