Avalanche (heraldry)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The avalanche is a common figure in heraldry and quite rare as a heraldic figure . Regional names are Lan, Lahn, Lahne or Lähn .

A more or less natural mountain is shown with a diffuse snow cloud sliding down in silver. The coat of arms is not very heraldic.

The coat of arms of "An der Lahn" in Tyrol, a rural nobility, is known from its mention in the: Handbook of theoretical and practical heraldry by Otto Titan von Hefner, Table XVIII, Fig. 614. A silver mountain in red with a slide in silver Avalanche. Helmet jewels are six ostrich feathers in silver and red, as well as red and silver helmet covers .
