League Against Cruel Sports

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The League Against Cruel Sports (LACS, German: League against cruel sports ) is a UK- based animal welfare organization that campaigns against animal fights such as bullfighting , hunted foxes with packs of dogs, and rabbit hunting . The organization is also working to ban the manufacture, sale, and use of traps , regulate greyhound racing, and end commercial and trophy hunting . Paul McCartney and the Scottish actress Annette Crosbie , who has headed the organization since 2003, are among the best-known supporters of these organizations .

The organization was founded in 1923 and is based in Godalming, Surrey. One of the great successes of the organization is the passage of the Hunting Act 2004 , which prohibits the hunting of foxes with packs in England and Wales and also bans rabbit hunting . The organization had campaigned for decades against this last form of dog sport, in which two greyhounds usually chase a hare and where large events such as the Waterloo Cup attracted tens of thousands of spectators. The company is also purposefully buying up land on which hunting is prohibited. This organization now owns 40 conservation reserves.

One of the topics that the organizations are currently addressing is a ban on pheasantries , in which pheasants are raised and then released so that they can be used as game. She is also working to have the Hunting Act 2004 in a similar form in Northern Ireland .
