Title page of the novel

The life and deeds of the famous knight Schnapphahnski is a feature novel by Georg Weerth that parodies nobility in the 19th century. It was reprinted from August 1, 1848 to January 21, 1849 in the Neue Rheinische Zeitung in continuation.

action

The work describes the life of a knight full of ups and downs. The knight Schnapphahnski travels across Europe, always looking for new adventures, money and women. But through his clumsy actions he falls into a deep social hole and has thus reached the lowest point of his life. The knight, not without ulterior motives, fights for the reputation of a certain Countess S., who later takes him as her husband, thus opening a new path to a better and more respected life for him. This work should not necessarily represent the person of the knight Schnapphahnski, but embody the entire nobility.
