Idle regulator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An idle controller is a device in an internal combustion engine that keeps a lower speed , the idle , constant. The idle speed controller works either mechanically , for example using centrifugal weights, which track the speed via an actuator via a linkage , as was common with older diesel engines, or, as is common today, electronically via a crankshaft sensor that reports the speed to a control unit , and an electric actuator that readjusts the idle speed.

Idle speed controllers are common today in both diesel and gasoline engines . The reason for this is the strongly fluctuating power demand from consumers, for example from air conditioning or electrical heating systems .

The speed limiter ensures an upper limit to the speed .
