The style

Legowelt is a DJ and music producer of electronic music , the style of which he himself describes as a hybrid form of slam Jack The Hague Electronix combined with Deep Chicago Trax , Obscure & Romantic Ghetto Technofunk and EuroHorror Soundtrack . You can hear his preference for older and classic synthesizers in various pieces. These instruments have their own distinctive sound characteristics in relation to the sometimes unusually rough, warm or old-fashioned sound.

The person

Legowelt began producing music in the early 1990s . At this time he came into contact with Detroit's Underground Resistance , which includes his - according to his own account - favorite producer of all time, Blake Baxter . The Chicago musicians Farley Jackmaster Funk, Armando Gallop and Mr. Fingers , and later M-ziq , Aphex Twin and Drexciya, among others , influenced him and his music.

The band Unit Moebius had the greatest influence. Because the realization that they came from his hometown The Hague led him to the record company Bunker Records. There he met musically like-minded people and finally released his first record, Pimpshifter (1998), which was a success with hits like Sturmvogel and Total Pussy Control . The following EP Wirtschaftswunder is also one of his best works.

In 2002 the readers of the German music magazine Groove voted Legowelt's single Disco Rout as song of the year, which earned it general recognition.

In some cases he publishes his records under the following pseudonyms: Calimex Mental Implant Corp., Clendon Toblerone, Commanchee's Revenge, Danny Blanco, Danny Wolfers, Dickie Smabers & The Moerwijk Crew, Florenza Mavelli, Franz Falckenhaus, Gladio, House Of Jezebel, Jackmaster Corky, Klaus Weltman, Lords Of Midnite, Nacho Patrol, Nomad Ninja, Occult Orientated Crime, Phalangius, Polarius, R-Zone, Raheem Hershel, Ray Escortienda, Rising Sun Systems, Saab Knutson, Salamandos, Sammy Osmo, Satomi Taniyama, Seaside Houz Boyz, Smackos , Squadra Blanco, The Psychic Stewardess, Twilight Moose, Venom 18, Westside Box Savants.

There are also joint projects with other artists, including Catnip (with Luke Eargoggle), The Chicago Shags (with Orgue Electronique), Smackulator (with Speculator) and as Trackman Lafonte & Bonquiqui (with Sheela Rahman alias XOSAR).

In addition to his work as a producer, Legowelt travels a lot as a DJ. Luke Eargoogle and musicians from Bunker Records often accompany him.

He is also in a relationship with Sheela Rahman alias XOSAR.
