Leica-Welt is the name of the Leica Camera headquarters in Wetzlar, Central Hesse, within the Leitz-Park industrial area . The production and administration building with a museum was initiated by Andreas Kaufmann and built between 2012 and 2014 according to designs by Gruber + Kleine-Kraneburg .

Urban planning aspects

The new construction of the production and administration building of Leica Camera AG dominates the central square within the Leitz Park, to which the previously completed buildings of the photo-optical industrial companies Viaoptic and Weller Feinwerktechnik (2010) are connected. The inclusion of the surroundings and the alignment of the property edges give the square its conciseness. The ensemble "represents a representative, at the same time reserved urban development prelude for Wetzlar".

Generous curved steps lead to the entrance of the building. Numerous public lounges have been set up on the central square. A curved pavilion used as a café continued to fill the space.

The multifunctional new building houses the Leica flagship store , a museum , a company restaurant , production and logistics areas , technical development and construction departments, as well as office and administration areas. Circles and circle segments are defining forms for the architecture both in the facade and in the interior. The structure and details of the building always refer to the products of the Leica company. The round perforated facade made of exposed concrete reminds many visitors of film rolls, lenses or rangefinders.

The Leica Academy Germany is also located in the building.
