Corpse passport

Form of a corpse passport

For the cross-border transport of a corpse , Germany requires an official corpse passport . After checking the death certificate, if necessary after hearing the doctor who last treated the deceased, inspecting the corpse again and checking that the coffin was properly carried out, as well as certification from the responsible medical officer , the corpse pass is issued by the local regulatory authority.

In the event of death from a reportable communicable disease according to the Infection Protection Act , the health department has to decide, depending on the situation of the case, whether the issue of the corpse passport is to be refused due to the risk of procrastination. The issuance of this official certificate is generally refused for the transport of the corpse of people who have died of a disease that is dangerous to the public. In the event of death as a result of another communicable disease, this fact alone does not give rise to any concerns about transport.
