Linen frog (wagon)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A line frog is a fastening device for the lines of a horse- drawn carriage , usually provided with a set screw. Part of the bridle is also known as a line frog.

The linen frog makes it easier to steer a team of horses. The leashes of the individual pairs of draft animals must not slip during the journey, because the horses react sensitively to every control signal. Before the start of the journey, the coachman inserts the leash lines into the line frog in pairs, determines the correct length of the individual lines and then locks them in place with the screw clamp. As a result, the line frog on the one hand improves the handling of the driving lines and on the other hand increases the precision of the guidance of the team.
