Lemang is a Malay rice specialty , which is mainly served at festivals such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Hari Raya Haji .

Lemang mainly consists of glutinous rice , which is cooked together with coconut milk in a hollowed out, approximately 50 cm long bamboo tube . The cavity of the bamboo cane is lined with banana leaves before it is filled . During the three-hour cooking process over an open fireplace, mostly outdoors, the bamboo cane must be turned every 15 minutes. Usually, salt is another ingredient that enhances the taste . Lemang is served, wrapped in the banana leaves, in the form of cylindrical pieces.

Lemang is a special food that is increasingly being offered at street stalls at major celebrations of Malay culture, such as the festival of breaking the fast after the fasting month of Ramadan (Hari Raya Aidilfitri).
