During the Second World War , the Rozentalis family lived in the Kauen ghetto .

After the rumors about the liquidation spread in the ghetto, Š decided. Rozentalis to rescue his underage son Leo from the ghetto. He asked the farmer Petras Macijauskas, who lived in Rožių village on IX fortas , whether he could take the boy with him. Macijauskas did not hesitate and agreed to build a safe shelter. Not only Petras Macijauskas took care of Leo, but the whole family: his daughters Violeta and Liudvika and the sons Zenonas and Robertas. Another four Jews found refuge at Macijauskas.
