Leon Nikolayevich Shishkov ( Russian Леон Николаевич Шишков * February 23 . Jul / 7. March  1830 greg. In Speschnewo, Oblast Lipetsk , † December 31, 1907 jul. / 13. January  1908 greg. ) Was a Russian chemist.

He was temporarily an assistant to Robert Bunsen in Heidelberg and professor at the artillery school in St. Petersburg, where he had also studied (graduation in 1851). He taught at the artillery school from 1860 to 1865 and set up a chemistry laboratory there in 1861, which was advanced for his time and Russia at that time. In 1865 he retired to the country.

Bunsen and Schischkow were the first to examine the residues from the explosion of gunpowder more closely. They found numerous salts that had not previously been detected or expected. In 1857 they published their paper on the chemical theory of gunpowder, which was a pioneering work in the field.

He studied acidic acid and its salts and was the first to present some nitro compounds (such as trinitromethane ).
