Leonardo (full name: Leonardo: A Portrait of Love ) is an Australian musical about the love life of Leonardo da Vinci , written by Duke Minks , Russell Dunlop , Greg Moeller and Tom Moeller . It was in the late 1980s in the West End in London with Simon Burke as Leonardo, Erana Clark , James Barron and a choir performed. It was financed by the government of the island state of Nauru , which invested $ 2.9 million in it. The project was canceled by the theater management in London after four weeks due to lack of success. It was performed in Oxford in 1992and again in London in 1995, but even then without success.

Leonardo is only one example of the waste of the Nauruan wealth that the local government ran for decades.
