Leslie de Melcher

Leslie de Melcher is an American composer.

Leslie Melcher studied philosophy at the Sorbonne and music at the École Normale de Musique de Paris . He also studied composition with Tony Aubin , attended seminars by Pierre Boulez at the Collège de France and courses with Todd Machover at IRCAM . After living in the USA for 20 years, he moved to Toronto in 2003.

In Paris he received a composition commission from the French Ministry of Culture for a work for chamber orchestra. The electro-acoustic work CANUM IV premiered at the Festival of Contemporary Music in Lyon. The world premiere of his cantata The Spirit of our Time for organ, mixed and children's choir, soprano, piano and strings took place in the Central Presbyterian Church in New York . Mad Brass for marching band, percussion and children's choir premiered in celebration of New York's Madison Square Park .

The opera The Crystal Dome for digital or analog instruments, laser show, digital animation, live string ensemble, piano and actors was created as a work in progress . Domus is the title of an interactive web opera for digital video, interactive music, 3-D animation, sound processing and computer-generated voices.
