LessTif

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LessTif is a new implementation or a clone of the Motif GUI toolkit . LessTif is developed by the group The Hungry Programmers and tries to be a compatible replacement for Motif.

In contrast to Motif, which used to be licensed , LessTif was sold under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) from the start, which is far less restrictive and thus made LessTif more attractive for many developers. The license from Motif was the main motivation for the development of LessTif.

LessTif aims for full source code and binary compatibility with Motif. This has not yet been achieved (and possibly never will), but most Motif applications already run with LessTif or can be compiled with it.

From version 2.3.4, Motif itself was also placed under the LGPL, which means it is also Free / Libre Open Source software .
