Leyla Taşdelen (* 1964 in Turkey ) is a Turkish poet . She writes haiku in German .

Taşdelen came to Germany at an early age. After she first encountered the special Japanese poem form Haiku in 1993 , she soon began attempts to write Haiku, later also to write Tanka herself in German. The extremely strict rules of haiku and tanka forced the author to work intensively with her second German language .

In 2003 she was the winner of the 1st German Haiku Internet Competition Haiku with Brains and her contribution was published in an anthology of the same name .

A separate volume of poetry, Autumn in a Foreign Land (2004), followed. This is also a record of how a foreign language, which she has spoken since childhood, finally becomes her own for the author via the detour of dealing with the lyric form of a third language area with completely different language-aesthetic laws.
