Lhalung Monastery

The Lhalung Monastery ( Tib . : lha lung dgon pa ) was originally a monastery of the Karma Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism . It was founded in 1155. It is located in Lhozhag (Lhodrag) County of Shannan Governorate in Tibet , China .

Under the 5th Dalai Lama , the monastery became a Gelugpa monastery. Thanks to the special favor of the 5th Dalai Lama and the Manchu emperors of the Qing dynasty , the monastery enjoyed great prestige that extended beyond Tibet to Bhutan . The place of the monastery was well known in Tibet because the monk Pelgyi Dorje von Lhalung ( lha lung dpal gyi rdo rje ) killed the last Tibetan king Lang Darma and thus ended the Tubo dynasty .

It was the seat of the early Pawo incarnations of the Karma Kagyu tradition (see main article Pawo Rinpoche and Nenang Monastery ). After being taken over by the Gelugpa in the time of the 5th Dalai Lama, it was given to the Peling ( Pema Lingpa ) incarnations.

The famous Tibetan work A Festival for the Elders by Pawo Tsuglag Trengwa was written here.

It has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2013 .
