Li Jie (architect)

Li Jie ( Chinese  李 诫 , Pinyin Lǐ Jiè , W.-G. Li Chieh ) (* 1065 ; † 1110 ) was a Chinese imperial architect and official from the Song Dynasty . In 1092 he was appointed overseer of all government building projects. In this function he was commissioned by the emperor around 1100 to revise and re-issue the state records on construction methods and building standards ( Yingzao fashi ). The result was the (new) Yingzao fashi (Wade-Giles: Ying-tsao fa-shih ) published in 1103 , which is the oldest surviving book on Chinese architecture.

His grave in Longhu龙 湖镇 Township of Xinzheng has been on the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-267) since 2006 .
