Liar ( I am a liar ) is a song by the Rollins Band and the first single from their fourth album Weight (1994). It is the only single on the album that made it into the charts and one of the band's most famous songs. Liar is one of the band's favorite pieces when performing live. The spoken passages are then improvised or different from the studio recording.

In various areas both a short version (4:19) and a longer "video edit" (4:49) were sold as a single CD, often with one or more additional tracks from the album Weight . These and other releases appeared in the 2004 album Weighting .

The video editing by Liar was shown in the video and has a different soundtrack and slightly different text in the introduction. Anton Corbijn directed the video . Henry Rollins appears in it in various outfits. During the spoken text he wears a black T-shirt and speaks in his spoken word style in a calm, gentle tone about trust and friendship. In the chorus he screams at the audience with a bare, devilishly painted upper body, jumping wildly and cursing mockingly. He appears in the speaking part in a Superman parody costume (with an R for Rollins instead of an S for Superman), a police uniform and a nun's costume ("I will never tell a lie"). In the seemingly schizophrenic song, Rollins portrays an angry man who hunts down vulnerable women. To gain your trust, he tells you what you want to hear, but always ends up hurting you because he's a liar.

Once released, the song was played frequently on MTV and appeared on Beavis and Butt-Head . In the episode, Beavis is enthusiastic about the chorus and repeats the word “Liar” like he typically says “Fire! Fire! Fire! ”Calls. Butt-head also believes that “lying” is “cool”.

Liar was named the 64th best hard rock song of all time by VH1 . It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance . Rollins Band sang the song at the 1995 Grammy Awards .
