Lichtenrader minting a 5 DM coin from 1975 G ( mint mark G for Karlsruhe )
A one-mark coin from Lichtenrad from 1875 H ( mint mark H for Darmstadt ) - elements of the imperial eagle (eagle wings and head area) are clearly visible on the number side of the coin

A Lichtenrader embossing ( English : clashed this ) is encountered in the manufacture of coins Fehlprägung .

If by mistake there is no blank in the coin press, the motif on the front and back is pressed into the dies . In the case of subsequent correct minting, the other side of the motif can be seen on the coin as a shadow. Lichtenrader coins are collectibles sought after by numismatists.

The term Lichtenrader coinage dates back to 1976. In the previous year, new 5 DM pieces were issued, so that the motif, which was new at the time, attracted greater attention. A Volksbank in the Berlin district of Lichtenrade noticed this incorrect minting and was initially mistaken for a coin forgery. At that time it was a copy from 1975 with the stamp G for Karlsruhe.
