The festival of lights in Halle, Saale is an annual city festival that took place in 2012 for the eighth time. It is opened by the chosen fairy of lights and traditionally celebrated over the first weekend in November all over the city center. A waterfall will be built in front of the town house and it will be festively illuminated . The festival ends with Sunday shopping with fireworks. Spotlights illuminate the sky above the market square. The highlight of the festival is a lantern parade led by the fairy of lights in her carriage. The city's children follow her across Riebeckplatz towards the market. During the entire festival of lights, the city of Halle is shrouded in colorful light. The dealers involved design their shop windows accordingly. There are stalls on all three markets (Marktplatz, Hallmarkt , Alter Markt). In 2012 a new tradition was started by forming a heart out of 6,000 candles, which will be doubled in 2013 to break the world record.
