Liferea ( Li nux Fe ed Rea der) is a free feed reader . It was developed based on GTK + and is available as a free package for numerous Linux distributions under the GNU GPL license. Liferea can currently be used for the following feed formats:
Liferea also supports podcasting . Episodes are displayed as an attachment to the description and can be played in Liferea, downloaded or their URLs transferred to other programs.
Functions
Liferea is programmed in C and does not use any interpreter languages .
To make it easier to read linked articles or blog comments, Liferea allows web pages to be loaded in the embedded HTML browser that WebKit uses for display. In addition, the user can use a variety of predefined external browser programs to open links ( Mozilla , Firefox , Netscape , Opera , Epiphany , Konqueror ).
By storing feed subscriptions in different folders, the headlines of the subscriptions can be accessed. With a corresponding configuration option, Liferea only shows the unread headlines. This gives you a quick overview of all new headlines in a category.
Similar to Evolution , Liferea supports so-called search folders , which represent a permanent search function. A search folder contains all headlines of all subscriptions that match its search rules.
Liferea allows synchronization with web applications such as Tiny Tiny RSS , InoReader, Reedah and TheOldReader.
Browser integration
In Epiphany, feeds offered by the respective website can be selectively added to Liferea with the News Feed Subscription extension.
In Firefox, the supplied script "liferea-add-feed" can be configured in the Firefox settings so that feeds are automatically added to Liferea.
Plugins
Since version 1.10 Liferea can be expanded or changed via plugins. Supplied plugins allow notifications, keychain integration and a notification icon (tray icon) to be added.
